    Downstream Discharge

As water tops the inlet into the principal spillway, it flows through the dam into the stilling basin and then on downstream. In smaller watershed dams, the stilling basin basically consists of a small, erosion-protected pond and an outlet channel.
Because of the potentially higher volumes of water at HorseThief Reservoir, the outlet works will consist of a 15’ wide by 75’ long concrete structure equipped with baffling devices to minimize downstream erosion.
