Drains are an important part of the “plumbing” of a dam. Drains consist of both solid and slotted PVC pipe placed in beds of sand located throughout the dam.
Drains are designed to capture excess water, both groundwater and seepage from precipitation, and transport it safely out of the dam, preventing structural damage to the structure.

HorseThief Reservoir will incorporate both chimney and blanket drains, and will use more than 80,000 cubic yards of sand.
